Its been a while since I've done a still life daily painting. Its nice to go back to simple subjects. These earrings are another selection from my Grandma's jewelry box.

City Lights Study
This is a study for a larger painting I plan to do. This was exciting as I've not painted a night scene before and was a little unsure as to how it would translate. I'm really pleased with it. I love the feel, the lighting on her face, the bits of different colored lights in the background, everything. Really looking forward to expanding this!

Morning
I love working in squares, but sometimes I need to switch it up. Oblong shapes have become another of my favorite sizes to work with and are perfect for landscapes. I can't wait for mornings like this again. Spring is coming!

Flapper Study #3
I'm still loving doing these flappers. A good friend of mine sat for this photoshoot some months ago and I just have oodles of great shots that I didn't use for the larger works I did, so thought I'd use them for these daily paintings. I plan to do some more shoots like this soon for some new material. Until then, more flappers!

Flapper Study #2
I took an unintentional break from daily paintings because of a couple of very busy weeks. It felt great getting back into them with a portrait this time. I was a little afraid of approaching a face with a time constraint, but I loved it! I'm sure more will come.

Flapper Study
When working larger, I paint primarily people. Since starting these daily paintings, I've stuck with simpler subjects. Today I decided to try a figure in this quick style. It was hard to show restraint in not perfecting every little detail. Admittedly, I spent a little more time than I have on most of the others, but I'm happy with what I was able to come up with in a much shorter than typical for me when painting people.

Sixties Pin
This pin was my grandma's from the 1960s, I believe. I can remember when I was young playing dress-up at her house and raiding her box of old costume jewelry. This piece was one of my favorites and is one of many I was able to keep after she passed.

Peppers
I was cutting up some vegetables today, and had to stop and snap a shop of these pretty peppers. Again, I was drawn to brights colors with a nice, high shine. These forms were fun to paint. I think I will revisit them.

There is a quarter horse farm not far from where I live. I was out for a run one day recently and this handsome guy came over to say hello while I was pausing for a stretch.

Winter Sunrise
Earlier this week I woke up to the most beautiful fresh snowfall and just had to venture outside to capture some shots as the sun came up. I love playing with these simple landscapes. And the soft colors of early mornings are some of my favorites to capture.

Running Shoes
If you would have told me just a few years ago that I would be a runner, I would have laughed. Somehow I got started and after a few years under my belt, I'm hooked. Its funny how a mundane pair of running shoes has now become one of my favorite things.

A Study in Subtle Blue
I love this shot of the ocean at early morning when the sky and water almost melt into each other. The whole scene is almost the same color, with just slight shifts in hue and value.

Vintage Beads
Playing more with leaving the toned panel showing through. I'm really liking it. And these bright pink beads were quite fun to paint!

Classic Red
ail polish was one of my first daily painting subjects just a few weeks ago. In revisiting it, I can already see improvement! For this one, I liked the way the purple background looked with bits of the toned underpainting peeking through, so I left some.

Flamingos
These flamingos were a fun challenge for me. I've learned that detailed compositions like this can easily turn muddy if overworked. I'm having to learn to show restraint, but enjoying the process!

Storm Clouds
This quick study was done from a shot I took of some impressive looking storm clouds over one of the rivers in Charleston, SC (I no longer remember which one). I loved painting the light reflecting off of the water and the bit of rain in the distance.
